Share Your Pictures

How to upload your pictures now to the California King Tides Flickr group:

1. Join the Group by agreeing to the Group Rules.

2. Take some photos.
- Be careful during high water and/or stormy conditions
- Make sure your camera has the correct DATE and TIME (so metadata is accurate)
- Turn on the camera’s GPS if it has one (all King Tide Photos must be referenced to geographic locations)

3. Upload photos to your Flickr Photostream.
- Add descriptions to your photos and make sure to note: DATE AND TIME TAKEN, and GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION. Photos need to be geotagged to a location on a map where the images were taken. It’s simple and easy to do. Instructions on how to geotag can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/help/map/?search=how+to+geotag#201.
- If the information is available to you, it would also be helpful to know which direction the camera was facing, whether the photo is a low-tide comparison, and what the tide height was above chart datum (e.g. 3.7 m)
- Please TAG your photos as appropriate. We suggest using “king tide”, “king tide 2011″ (or the year the photo was taken), and the specific location (for example, “Bolinas” or Fisherman’s Wharf”).

4. Add your King Tide photos to the Group.
- When uploading, select the “Send to group” option.  A group administrator will approve it shortly.

5. Tune in to see your photo added to the Group.

How your photos may be used

We will use photos submitted to this group according to the“Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License.”   The photographs and associated information will be used to create a map that will catalog coastal areas that are currently affected by extreme water levels. A report containing a selection of the submissions will be available after the event. Photos may be used by other individuals in presentations, websites and publications on sea level rise impacts, coastal initiatives and climate action.
